Exploring the world of work

Throughout the year, the Career and Education team holds special events and initiatives across the West Central Texas region for students, parents, teachers, employers, and community partners to engage in the world of work. Being able to see work in action, hear employers discuss specific careers, and engage with partners are important steps to developing a well-rounded workforce.

Yearly Events & Initiatives

The team kicks off the school year with the World of Work (WOW) Youth Expo in the fall followed by our student video contest, Careers in Action. February brings Celebrate Careers, a month-long initiative to dive deeper into high demand careers in our region. Career Signing Day is a statewide, annual initiative the Texas Workforce Commission kicks off each spring to recognize senior students and their post-high school plans. What's Next is an event specifically held for seniors in the spring to help plan their path after graduation. During the summer months, we hold our Teacher Externship program where we pair local teachers with regional employers so they can bring a better understanding of the workforce back into their classroom.

No matter the time of year, there is always an opportunity for students, employers, parents, and educators to get plugged in with Workforce Solutions of West Central Texas.
