GENERAL DESCRIPTION
Performs highly complex (senior-level) work assisting the youth facility superintendent in the management and oversight of a high security correctional facility for youth who have been adjudicated delinquent of felony offenses and committed to the agency by a juvenile court. Work involves assisting the youth facility superintendent in planning, organizing, coordinating, and monitoring the implementation of a multifaceted institutional service and treatment system, which includes an integrated, system-wide rehabilitative program and specialized treatment programs; establishing goals and objectives and developing standards for achieving established goals; developing guidelines to administer and enforce policies, procedures, rules, and regulations; overseeing daily facility operations and activities; developing and evaluating budget requests. Plans, assigns, and supervises the work of others. May interact with juvenile judges, district attorneys, probation departments, and other state agencies.
Works under limited supervision, with considerable latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. May be required to work in excess of 40 hours per workweek, be on-call 24 hours per day, and travel occasionally.
