[ARCHIVED] County Jailer (Sweetwater)

The Nolan County Sheriff's Office is seeking three (3) full time Jailers to add to their Sweetwater team.

Nature of Work: County Jailer handles control room operations, reads pass-on logs, receives activity briefings from off-going shift personnel, processes new inmates, and performs searches of individuals and or jail facility to locate weapons and or contraband, monitors, detects and deters improper behavior, and provides custodial care necessary for the security and well-being of inmates confined in the Nolan County jail. Furthermore, the jail/detention officer prepares inmates for transport to the court system, supervises inmate visitation, and directs inmates while out of the cell areas during transport, work assignments, and recreation. Distributes food to inmates, conducts security checks, and oversees inmate sentence calculation and releases by reviewing court commitments. Prepares logs, records and reports of jail activities and may perform other related duties as required. Work is performed under the direction Jail Administrator, Brenda Watts and functions may vary by individual assignment. 

Requirements: You must meet the following requirements for eligibility of employment and to qualify for licensure as a peace officer or county jailer in the State of Texas.

  1. Must be a citizen of the United States of America.
  2. Must be twenty-one (21) years of age or older.
  3. Must have a valid driver's license.
  4. Must have earned a high school diploma or GED from an accredited learning institution.
  5. Must never have been convicted, plead guilty (nolo contendere), nor have been on a court-ordered community service/probation or deferred adjudication for Class A misdemeanor or a felony.
  6. During the last ten (10) years, must not have been convicted, plead guilty (nolo contendere), been on community service/probation or deferred adjudication for a Class B misdemeanor in this state, other stat, or while serving in the United States military.
  7. Must not had a military discharge other than honorable.
  8. Patrol Deputies must live within the boundaries of Nolan County. (possible exception for Courthouse Deputies)


Annual Salary: $48,624.24, Works out to $4,052.02 per month or $23.38 per hour (after probationary period)
 
Standard probationary period of 6 months during which time salary is reduced by only $50.00 per month.
